Jill Rickel, M.S., CEP

Founder

Consultant Emeritus

Jill is the founder of AO Therapeutic Consulting. In 2006, the practice was formed under the name Academic Options and served clients in need of specialized post-secondary programs or traditional college counseling. Academic Options became known internationally as AO, and having evolved to focus on therapeutic, alternative, and long-term placements, in 2020 it was renamed AO Therapeutic Consulting.

In 2025, after 19 years of serving students and families, Jill decided to step back and no longer take an active role in new cases. Jill continues to support and consult with the AO team on a regular basis.

Jill graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a master’s degree in counseling psychology and from the University of Miami, Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. Jill has been a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP), Therapeutic Consulting Association (TCA), Young Adult Transition Association (YATA), and American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP).
